Full Arch Dental Implants in Hamilton

All-on-4 and All-on-6 with on-site sleep dentistry

Full arch dental implants (often called All-on-4 or All-on-6) replace a whole upper or lower arch of teeth with a fixed bridge supported by four to six implants. At our Hamilton practice, treatment can be carried out under general anaesthesia (sleep dentistry) on site, so many patients do not need to travel to Melbourne for surgery.

Whether full arch implants are suitable for you depends on a clinical assessment, including a 3D (CBCT) scan.

Who Might Consider Full Arch Implants?

Full arch implants are one option for people who:

  • have many broken down, decayed or failing teeth
  • wear a full denture that is loose or uncomfortable
  • would like a fixed (non-removable) alternative to a full denture

Other options include conventional dentures, implant-retained (removable) dentures, and individual implants or bridges. Your dentist will talk you through the options that suit your situation.

How Full Arch Implants Work

  • Angled back implants: the rear implants can be placed at an angle to make use of the available bone, which may reduce the need for bone grafting.
  • Implant foundation: four to six titanium implants are placed in the jawbone and, over time, bond with the bone to act as artificial roots.
  • Fixed bridge: a custom full arch bridge is screwed onto the implants. Where clinically appropriate, a fixed temporary bridge may be fitted on the day of surgery, with the final bridge fitted once healing is complete.

Sleep Dentistry (General Anaesthesia) On Site

For full arch treatment, many patients choose to have their surgery under general anaesthesia. Our Hamilton practice has an on-site facility where general anaesthesia is provided by a qualified anaesthetist, so you are asleep during the procedure and wake in our recovery area.

General anaesthesia carries its own risks and is not suitable for everyone. We will review your medical history and discuss whether it is appropriate for you.

What Happens on the Day

Every treatment plan is different, but a typical day looks like this:

  1. Morning: arrival, preparation and the start of your general anaesthetic.
  2. Midday: implant placement, guided by your digital treatment plan.
  3. Afternoon: recovery, then fitting of a fixed temporary bridge where clinically appropriate.

You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you after a general anaesthetic. Healing continues over the following months, with review appointments before your final bridge is made.

Using Your Superannuation

In some circumstances you may be able to apply to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) for early release of superannuation on compassionate grounds to pay for eligible dental treatment. The ATO applies its own criteria and decides each application, and approval is not guaranteed.

If you decide to apply, we can provide the assessment, 3D imaging and clinical reports the application needs, and SuperCare’s consultants can help with the application process. Accessing your super early reduces your retirement savings, so you may wish to get independent financial advice first. Read more about using your super.

Payment plans may also be available through Afterpay and Humm, subject to each provider’s eligibility requirements, fees and terms. See our payment options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I go home with teeth on the same day?

It may be possible. Where it is clinically appropriate, a fixed temporary bridge is attached to your implants on the day of surgery. Whether this is possible depends on factors such as bone quality and how stable the implants are on the day, which your dentist will explain beforehand. The final bridge is fitted once healing is complete.

Can I be asleep for the whole procedure?

Yes, if general anaesthesia is suitable for you. A qualified anaesthetist looks after you throughout the procedure in our on-site facility, and you recover with us before going home.

How does early release of superannuation work?

We can provide the clinical documentation you may require for this process.

We can refer you over to a team who can assist and provide you with the appropriate advice and help you with your application to the ATO. Approval is at the ATO’s discretion.

I have been told I don’t have enough bone for implants. Can I still have them?

Angled rear implants can make use of the bone you have, which may reduce the need for bone grafting. A 3D scan lets us assess your bone and talk through your options. In some cases grafting or a different treatment may still be recommended.

Do I need to travel to Melbourne?

In most cases, no. Your consultation, imaging, sleep dentistry, surgery and follow-up appointments all take place at our Hamilton practice.
